Amrith Gunasekara is science advisor to Secretary Karen Ross at the California Department of Food and Agriculture (CDFA). Gunasekara is returning to CDFA after a serving as a research scientist for the California Department of Public Health. His focus right now is on nitrogen sensors in agriculture. Gunasekara was an environmental scientist in CDFA’s fertilizer program, and also worked for the California Department of Pesticide Regulation. As science advisor, he will be a steward of CDFA’s wide-ranging, world-renowned scientific expertise, and will look to deliver that expertise to help facilitate ongoing review of the regulatory climate for agriculture. Gunasekara will also serve as CDFA’s liaison to the Cannella Environmental Farming Act Science Panel. He received his PhD in Agricultural and Environmental Chemistry from UC Davis.
