Bob Martin has been general manager of Rio Farms for the past 35 years. His primary focus now is around onion production for Rio Farms’ sister company, Gills Onions in Oxnard, which grows and contracts about 2,500 acres per year with growers in the Imperial, San Joaquin and Salinas Valleys.

A King City native, Bob was born on a farm where his father was instrumental in developing the first sprinkler irrigation system. Bob is an influential leader in the Salinas Valley ag industry, and is noted for his work with growers, farming communities, and environmental and regulatory agencies.

Bob is past president and current member of the Monterey County Farm Bureau, and sits on the Grower-Shipper Association of Central California, the oldest regional agricultural association. He is the 2012 recipient of the “Valley of the World” Ag Leader Award and was named Salinas Valley Ag Leader of the year in 2008.

Bob graduated from Cal Poly San Luis Obispo with a degree in crop science.
